Amtrak Texas Eagle No. 22 at Union Station in Little Rock, AR on Tuesday night, July 22, 2014.  The Eagle was about 10 minutes early and left on time. I also caught the BNSF local and a one-NS-engine move.

Early passenger arrivals inside the Amtrak waiting room in Union Station at 10:40 p.m. lining up to check baggage or get tickets.

Texas Eagle 22 arriving at Union Station at 11:23 p.m., 8 minutes early.

Amtrak Engine No. 60 was the lead locomotive.

The GE builder's plate on the side of engine 60. The  P42 was built in February 1997.

Waiting to board, 11:27 p.m. The train will have to wait for the scheduled departure time of 11:39 p.m. to leave.

Wide shot of the whole scene showing both locomotive 60 and 179. No, they don't intend to go with 2 engines routinely. The reason two are on there now is because the Eagle temporarily terminates in Fort Worth instead of San Antonio and they have no place to turn the engines in Fort Worth because of work on  the Tower 55 area. So they just leave the train set together with both engines, and this will last until September 3. After September 3 the train will go back to only one locomotive. Having two locomotives didn't help a few nights ago though when the lead Amtrak engine quit at Texarkana and the second locomotive was facing backwards and couldn't be turned to become the lead at Texarkana, so a UP locomotive no. 4244 was placed on the front to rescue the Eagle.

Waving goodbye and taking pictures as the train was leaving at 11:39 p.m. Most passengers that get on the northbound Eagles in the middle of the night here are headed to Chicago or St Louis.

Heading into the night.

BNSF 2957 on the daily BNSF local passing the station, 10:30 p.m. This train will pass the station then back onto the Little Rock & Western tracks (the 4th track from the platform) to store the freight cars on the Pulaski (former Rock Island) siding.

BNSF 2837.

BNSF 2837.

Shiny BNSF 721746 boxcar.

The BNSF local is passing a solitary NS locomotive heading this way on the next track over.

The big picture.

NS 2578 southbound, probably heading to Biddle Yard in south Little Rock. 10:37 p.m.
